We need to
teach students about making the right moral choices and the importance of a
value system as the basis for their decision making in life. By introducing
these values in the curriculum, through classroom studies, during assemblies
and other school activities, Times NIE teachers and principals believe that the
purpose of educating students will be achieved.
Nurtures Good Character
The
foundation to good character — or “moral intelligence” — consists of seven core
virtues: empathy, conscience, self-control, respect, kindness, tolerance, and
fairness. These ultimately form the student’s character and are the principles
they will use to direct the course of their lives long after.
Teaches How to Think and Act Right: In these troubling times, it’s
crucial that every child knows the difference between right and wrong.
Teaches
Life Skills: Moral IQ comprises skills needed to protect a student’s, life such
as resolving conflicts, empathizing etc.
Creates Good Citizens: The most important measure of a
nation is not its gross national product, its technological genius, or its
military might. It is the character of its people. Moral intelligence consists
of virtues that are the bedrock of good
citizenship and responsible living.
Counters Temptations: Moral Intelligence gives kids the
power to counter outside and inside vices so they do what’s right. It’s what
helps them navigate through the ethical challenges!
Prevents Cruelty: Moral science teaches students on
important skills like controlling anger, learning tolerance, using self control
etc. These skills are needed in all-life arenas.
Shapes Moral Destinies: Moral growth is an ongoing process
that will span the course of student’s lifetime. But the habits and beliefs of
Moral Intelligence instilled in them now
will become the ethical foundation they will use forever.
It is what
will greatly decide our moral destinies and what will be our greatest legacy.
